Speaker and Session Preview: Mackenzie Brady, Agents & Editors Panel

Mackenzie BradyMackenzie Brady of New Leaf Literary & Media is part of our Publishing Panel: Agents & Editors on CNF Today. We’re excited for her insight. We asked her a few questions about her upcoming creative writing conference appearance:

Hippocampus: What is your best advice for attending a writing conference, whether it’s for newbies or veterans?

Mackenzie: Be open. Be open to meeting new people, learning new details about the publishing industry and about your craft, to reading work that is very different from your own, and to having odd conversations with odd people — you never know where story ideas and characters will come from!

What’s on your personal conference agenda? Perhaps share with us a session/event you don’t want to miss.

The How I Got Published panel. I love hearing how debut authors got their start. There are so many interesting and circuitous routes to publishing.

What are you most looking forward to about visiting Lancaster?

I have family nearby, so I’m glad to have an excuse to visit, not to mention that the pastoral landscapes just outside of the city are beautiful and relaxing, and the city has developed a healthy art scene over the last few years.

We’re so glad that you’ll be able to make a family trip out of HippoCamp, Mackenzie–and maybe after spending three days with us, we’ll be like family too.

P.S. Here’s an example of the scenery Mackenzie mentioned:
